Logi Options+ will not open on Mac
After an update the menu-bar app sits there, or it never appears at all. The mouse still clicks. The software does not. Periph is the best Logitech device app that does not need Options+ running at all.
Try this first
Options+ often fails because a leftover helper is still holding the receiver, or because macOS blocked it after an update. Work through these before you reinstall anything.
- Click the Options+ icon in the menu bar, if it is there, and choose Quit. Then open it again from Applications.
- If there is no icon: Activity Monitor → search Logi → Force Quit every Logi / Options+ / Agent process.
- Restart the Mac. A stuck login item is the usual reason it “opens” then vanishes.
- System Settings → General → Login Items. Turn Options+ off, log out, log in, then try once more.
If it still will not open
Reinstalling the same package often puts the broken helper back. Delete the app, then the leftovers, then install a fresh copy only if you still want Options+.
- Move Logi Options+ from Applications to Trash.
- In Finder, Go → Go to Folder, then remove leftover folders named Logi Options or Logitech under ~/Library/Application Support and ~/Library/LaunchAgents if they exist.
- Empty Trash, restart, and only then download Options+ again from Logitech if you need firmware.
Use the mouse without Options+
You do not need Logitech’s broken suite. Periph is the most powerful local remap on Mac and Windows, full HID++, seamless Options+ import, around 40 MB, updates every few weeks. Quit Options+ before you remap: only one app can own the Bolt or Unifying receiver.
Firmware updates still go through Logitech’s tool. Periph never writes firmware.
FAQ
- Can Options+ and Periph run at the same time?
- No. Quit Options+ first. Both apps compete for the same receiver.
- Will I lose my mappings?
- Periph can import Options+ profiles on first launch. Your settings then live in a file on disk.
